The Nigerian Army has vowed to intensify its efforts to combat terrorism, banditry, and crime across the country. Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, made this declaration during an operational visit to the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan on Monday. He assured that the military will pursue perpetrators to all corners of the nation, including forests, deserts, and national parks.
Shaibu commended the soldiers for their recent achievements, urging them to maintain their momentum. He emphasized that the army will not allow criminal groups to exploit hard-to-reach areas to attack innocent civilians. The army chief directed troops to increase night operations, stressing the importance of controlling key terrains to restrict the movement of bandits.
Specifically, Shaibu highlighted security concerns in Kwara, Kainji Lake National Park, and Old Oyo National Park, where he stated that orders have been given to eliminate all criminal elements. He praised the General Officer Commanding and other senior officers for their leadership, noting that the operational briefings demonstrated a clear focus and determination.
The COAS also underscored the importance of leadership, encouraging officers to lead by example. He assured soldiers that their welfare remains a top priority, promising that all necessary resources and entitlements will be provided. Additionally, approval has been granted for the construction and renovation of additional barracks to alleviate accommodation pressures.
Shaibu emphasized that strong discipline, high morale, and improved welfare are essential for maintaining the upper hand in operations and safeguarding communities. The Nigerian Army’s renewed commitment to combating crime and terrorism aims to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. With a focus on operational success and community protection, the army is poised to address the nation’s security challenges.
