Atiku May Emerge Nigeria’s President in 2027

Dele Momodu, a prominent member of the African Democratic Congress, has stated that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may have a strong chance of becoming Nigeria’s president in 2027. Momodu made this statement during an X Space session titled “Avrilsspace: The Electoral Mathematics for 2027,” where he fielded questions from participants.

Atiku Abubakar has been actively seeking the presidency since 1993, when he withdrew from the Social Democratic Party’s primary election in favor of MKO Abiola. In the 2023 presidential election, he lost to President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress. Despite this, indications suggest that Atiku may once again contest for the presidency in 2027.

Momodu noted that Atiku’s prolonged involvement in politics and his current circumstances make him a viable candidate. “He has been running since 1993, and if fate favors him, he may become a significant figure in Nigeria’s history,” Momodu said. He highlighted Atiku’s good health, thriving business, and stable family life as factors that contribute to his potential candidacy.

Atiku’s relationship with his former boss, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been complex, but Momodu pointed out that despite their differences, Atiku has never publicly insulted Obasanjo. This, according to Momodu, demonstrates Atiku’s ability to conduct himself in a straightforward and respectful manner.

As the 2027 election approaches, Momodu’s statement suggests that Atiku Abubakar is a candidate to watch. With his extensive experience in politics and his current standing, Atiku may indeed be a strong contender for the presidency. The outcome of the 2027 election will depend on various factors, including the political landscape and the preferences of Nigerian voters. For now, Atiku’s potential candidacy is an important development in the country’s political scene, and his chances of success will be closely monitored in the coming months.
