The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has extended festive greetings to Nigerians and its members on the occasion of Christmas and New Year celebrations. In a statement released in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Jungudo Mohammed, called on citizens to utilize the festive season to pray for the country’s continued growth and development, as well as the stability of the party.
The PDP, led by Minister Nyesom Wike and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, urged its loyal members to reflect on the issues confronting the party, with the aim of making positive new year resolutions that will foster unity, stability, and progress. The party encouraged its members to continue supporting the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led Caretaker Committee, which is working to restore order, cohesion, and credibility within the party.
The statement addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the Oyo Convention, which produced Kabiru Turaki as the party’s National Chairman. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the convention, and the PDP has advised its members to carefully examine the facts, rather than falling prey to falsehoods and propaganda. The party emphasized its respect for constitutional provisions, subsisting court judgments, and the rule of law.
The PDP also responded to recent comments made by Governor Seyi Makinde, stating that his media chat was “uninspiring and replete with distorted facts, confessional statements, envy, and an afterthought.” The party cautioned that Makinde’s comments should be treated with utmost caution, as they demonstrate a lack of understanding of the legal and constitutional issues confronting the party.
As the PDP navigates its current challenges, the party’s leadership has urged its members to remain committed to the principles of unity and stability. With the festive season serving as a time for reflection and renewal, the PDP is looking to the new year as an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen its position. The party’s efforts to address its internal issues and restore credibility will be closely watched in the coming months, as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve.
