Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria have announced the restoration of power supply in parts of their franchise areas following a system disturbance on the national grid. The disturbance, which occurred on Monday, resulted in a collapse of the grid, leaving several areas without electricity.
Abuja and Port Harcourt Discos confirmed the restoration of power in separate statements released on Monday night. According to the statements, the national grid began to recover hours after the collapse, with electricity allocation to distribution companies rising to 3,411 megawatts by midnight, up from 50 megawatts at the time of the collapse.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated that power supply had been progressively restored across parts of its franchise area due to improved energy availability from the national grid. The company noted that restoration efforts were ongoing to ensure full stabilization of supply. Similarly, the Port Harcourt Disco informed its customers that its feeders were being gradually restored.
This is the fourth time the national grid has collapsed in 2025, affecting electricity supply across Nigeria. The recurrent collapse of the grid has raised concerns about the reliability of the country’s power infrastructure. The latest incident highlights the need for a stable and efficient electricity supply system to support economic and social activities.
The restoration of power supply is expected to bring relief to affected areas, which had been without electricity for several hours. However, the frequency of grid collapses in Nigeria remains a concern, and efforts are needed to address the underlying issues and prevent future occurrences. With the national grid restored, distribution companies will continue to work towards ensuring a stable and reliable electricity supply to their customers.
