Nigeria aim for perfect group finish as Uganda chase AFCON survival

Nigeria is on track to complete a flawless Group C campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations, having already secured a place in the knockout stages. The Super Eagles will face Uganda in their final group match on Tuesday, aiming to preserve their unbeaten record. They began the tournament with a 2‑1 victory over Tanzania, followed by an impressive 3‑2 win against Tunisia, giving them six points from two games and the top spot in the group.

Coach Éric Chelle attributes the team’s focus to their training base in Fez, Morocco, which has allowed them to prepare away from distractions. The calm environment has enabled the players to concentrate on their game plan, and with qualification already assured, Nigeria is expected to rotate the squad to maintain momentum ahead of the knockout rounds.

In contrast, Uganda faces a must‑win scenario to keep their qualification hopes alive. After losing their opening match to Tunisia and drawing with Tanzania, the Ugandans must defeat Nigeria and hope that Tunisia fails to beat Tanzania. Coach Paul Put remains optimistic despite the challenge, acknowledging Nigeria’s strength as the previous AFCON finalists. He emphasized that anything is possible in football and that his team will give everything to achieve a positive result.

The Nigeria‑Uganda clash promises to be decisive, with Nigeria chasing perfection and Uganda fighting for survival. The outcome will determine the final standings in Group C and have significant implications for each team’s progression in the tournament. As the Africa Cup of Nations intensifies, the stakes are high, and the fate of both nations will be decided on Tuesday, setting the stage for the next phase of the competition.
