The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged Nigerians to adopt a positive outlook and approach the future with renewed confidence and faith. In a statement, IPAC’s National Chairman, Dr. Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, called on citizens to recommit themselves to strengthening democracy and improving the quality of national life.
As the country prepares for upcoming elections, IPAC emphasized the need for politicians to engage in issue-based politics, shun violence, and avoid electoral malpractices. The council also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and guarantee the integrity of the electoral process.
The New Year presents an opportunity for Nigerians to participate in the democratic process, including the ongoing voter registration exercise and forthcoming elections. IPAC encouraged citizens to exercise their civic responsibility by voting for candidates of their choice and resisting the temptation of vote-buying, which undermines democracy.
The council reiterated the importance of neutrality and transparency in the electoral process, calling on INEC to maintain its impartiality and provide a level playing field for all parties. IPAC also urged INEC to conduct test runs of its electoral processes and materials to avoid avoidable glitches that could undermine public confidence.
In addition, IPAC addressed the new tax law, urging the Presidency to resolve discrepancies between the version passed by the National Assembly and the document gazetted by the Federal Government. The council reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with INEC and other stakeholders to deepen and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
As Nigerians enter the New Year, IPAC called for collective prayers for sustainable democracy, development, and security. The council encouraged citizens to replace pessimism with optimism and approach the future with renewed confidence and faith. With the 2027 general election on the horizon, IPAC’s message emphasizes the need for collective responsibility and engagement in the democratic process to build a better future for the country.
