PDP Remains Viable Alternative to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its position as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), according to the party’s National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki. In his New Year message to Nigerians, Turaki stated that the APC has failed to deliver good governance and economic relief, prompting the need for a change in leadership.

Turaki noted that the year 2026 presents an opportunity for Nigerians to renew their hopes for lasting peace, sustainable progress, and shared prosperity. He emphasized that the PDP remains committed to offering tested, trusted, and people-centered leadership, which he believes is essential for the country’s development. The party chairman criticized the APC-led Federal Government for introducing tax policies that are detrimental to the welfare of citizens, describing them as “anti-people and economically suffocating.”

The PDP chairman’s statement comes at a time when many Nigerians are reflecting on the country’s past, particularly the era of PDP governance, which was marked by relative economic stability and progress. Turaki emphasized that his party is the only viable opposition alternative to the APC, and that Nigerians are nostalgic for the period when the PDP was in power.

The introduction of new tax policies by the APC-led government has sparked concerns among citizens, who are already grappling with economic challenges. The PDP has been vocal in its criticism of the government’s economic policies, which it believes have failed to address the country’s socio-economic problems. As the country looks to the future, the PDP’s commitment to people-centered leadership and its criticism of the APC’s policies are likely to feature prominently in the national discourse.

The significance of Turaki’s statement lies in its emphasis on the need for a change in leadership and the PDP’s commitment to providing an alternative to the APC. As Nigeria navigates its economic and political challenges, the role of opposition parties like the PDP will be crucial in holding the government accountable and providing a viable alternative to the ruling party. With the 2026 elections on the horizon, the PDP’s position as a viable opposition alternative is likely to be a key factor in shaping the country’s political landscape.
