Anambra Government Warns Bianca Ojukwu Over Fake Chieftaincy Title

Beware of fake monarch - Anambra govt warns Bianca Ojukwu over chieftaincy title

The Anambra State Government has issued a stern warning to Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, regarding her recent claim of receiving a chieftaincy title from a traditional ruler in Awka. The government has deemed the title “fake” and “illegal,” emphasizing that only recognized traditional rulers in the state have the authority to confer such titles.

According to a statement released by Commissioner TonyCollins Nwabunwanne, the title “Anyanwu N’Awalu Ora” was conferred by Chief Austin Chukwuezugo Ndigwe, who the government describes as an impostor. The statement asserts that Chief Ndigwe is not a traditional ruler in Awka or anywhere in Anambra State, and that the authentic traditional ruler of Awka, HRH Gibson Nwabueze Nwosu, is the only recognized authority.

The government has criticized Ambassador Ojukwu for accepting the title, given her background and pedigree. It is noted that she had previously attended Chief Ndigwe’s birthday celebration, where Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo publicly warned him against impersonating the Awka traditional ruler. The statement also condemns the use of the non-existent title “Supreme Commander of Awka Ancient Kingdom” and the elevation of Chief Ndigwe as “His Majesty” and “Obi,” calling it an affront to the law and the authority of the traditional institution.

By conferring the chieftaincy title, Chief Ndigwe has allegedly usurped the ceremonial functions of the bona fide Traditional Ruler of Awka, HRH Gibson Nwosu. The government insists that the title conferred on Ambassador Ojukwu is neither recognized under Anambra law nor cultural tradition and has urged her to desist from using it.

The Soludo administration has reassured residents that it will continue to uphold respect for law, order, and cultural institutions, warning that attempts to subvert traditional authority will not be tolerated. The government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Anambra’s cultural heritage and collective social values. The incident highlights the importance of respecting traditional institutions and the need for individuals to verify the authenticity of titles and honors conferred upon them.
