PDP Urges FG to Prioritize Security, Welfare in 2026

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a New Year message, urging the Federal Government to prioritize security and citizens’ welfare in 2026. In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ini Ememobong, the PDP conveyed its goodwill and solidarity with Nigerians amidst the country’s persistent insecurity and economic hardship.

The party emphasized the need for people-centered governance, stating that the government should recommit to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the country. Ememobong advised that the interests of Nigerians should guide every action of the government, rather than partisan considerations or political survival. He also reminded those in power that they are servants of the people, whose mandate must be exercised with humility and accountability.

The PDP further urged democratic institutions, including the judiciary, electoral body, and security agencies, to resist pressure, inducement, and fear in carrying out their duties. Ememobong warned that democracy cannot endure where arbitrariness replaces justice and impunity thrives unchecked. The party reaffirmed its solidarity with Nigerians in their struggle for an egalitarian society founded on fairness, equity, and accountable governance.

As Nigeria continues to navigate its challenges, the PDP’s message highlights the importance of prioritizing citizens’ welfare and security. The party’s call for people-centered governance comes at a time when many Nigerians are seeking effective leadership and solutions to the country’s problems. With the new year underway, the government’s response to these concerns will be closely watched by citizens and the international community.

The PDP’s emphasis on the need for democratic institutions to operate independently and impartially is also significant, given the importance of these institutions in ensuring the rule of law and protecting human rights. As Nigeria moves forward in 2026, the ability of its government and institutions to address the country’s challenges and prioritize the welfare of its citizens will be crucial in determining the country’s progress and stability.
