Make security, welfare top priority in 2026 - PDP urges Nigerian Govt

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a New Year message urging the Federal Government to prioritize security and citizens’ welfare in 2026. In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ini Ememobong, the PDP expressed goodwill and solidarity with Nigerians amid persistent insecurity and economic hardship. The party stressed the need for people‑centered governance, calling on the government to recommit to its constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property across the country.

Ememobong advised that the interests of Nigerians should guide every government action, rather than partisan considerations or political survival. He reminded those in power that they are servants of the people, whose mandate must be exercised with humility and accountability. The PDP also urged democratic institutions—including the judiciary, the electoral body, and security agencies—to resist pressure, inducement, and fear in carrying out their duties. He warned that democracy cannot endure where arbitrariness replaces justice and impunity thrives unchecked.

Reaffirming its solidarity with Nigerians in their struggle for an egalitarian society founded on fairness, equity, and accountable governance, the PDP highlighted the importance of prioritizing citizens’ welfare and security. As many Nigerians seek effective leadership and solutions to the country’s problems, the party’s call for people‑centered governance arrives at a critical moment. With the new year underway, the government’s response to these concerns will be closely watched by citizens and the international community.

The PDP’s emphasis on the need for democratic institutions to operate independently and impartially is significant, given their role in ensuring the rule of law and protecting human rights. As Nigeria moves forward in 2026, the ability of its government and institutions to address the nation’s challenges and prioritize the welfare of its citizens will be crucial in determining the country’s progress and stability.
