Kano Court Confirms New NNPP Chairman

Court confirms Abiya as acting NNPP chairman in Kano

A Kano State High Court has validated the appointment of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu Abiya as the Acting State Chairman of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State. The court ruling also upheld the suspension of the former State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, and prohibited him from interfering in the party’s affairs until the main case is decided.

The legal challenge arose after the party’s state executive suspended Dungurawa, prompting him to continue claiming the chairmanship. The NNPP Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee subsequently filed a suit against Dungurawa, which is scheduled for hearing on January 19. The court has ordered all parties to maintain the status quo, directing Dungurawa to cease presenting himself as chairman or taking any action that could disrupt the party’s activities in Kano State.

The Kano State Executive Committee of the NNPP had confirmed Abiya’s appointment as Acting State Chairman during an emergency meeting at the party secretariat. This decision followed Dungurawa’s removal from office, reportedly due to internal party conflicts. Notably, Dungurawa is aligned with the party’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

The court’s ruling has significant implications for the party’s operations in Kano State, as it seeks to resolve the leadership dispute. The NNPP is a major political party in Nigeria, and the Kano State chapter plays a crucial role in the party’s national structure. The ongoing case highlights the internal power struggles within the party, which may impact its performance in future elections.

As the case progresses, the court’s decision will be closely watched by party members and political observers. The NNPP’s internal conflicts may have broader implications for Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly in the lead-up to future elections. With the hearing scheduled for January 19, the parties involved will need to adhere to the court’s directives and await the outcome of the suit. The resolution of this dispute will be essential in determining the party’s leadership and direction in Kano State.
