Nasarawa attack: Arrests made over deadly assault

Nasarawa attack: Suspects arrested, manhunt ongoing - Gov Sule

Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has confirmed that arrests have been made in connection with the recent deadly attack on the Akunza-Ashige community in Lafia Local Government Area. The governor assured residents that security agencies are still pursuing other suspects linked to the incident. This assurance comes after a violent assault was carried out by masked men during a traditional wedding ceremony, resulting in the deaths of three people and leaving several others seriously injured.

The incident occurred on December 31, 2025, when armed attackers invaded the Akunza-Ashige community in the early hours of the day. In response to the attack, the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, swiftly mobilized to restore calm in the area. According to the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba, security personnel took charge of the situation, and normalcy has been restored.

Ahemba stated that the government has put measures in place to ensure lasting peace in the affected community and across Nasarawa State, emphasizing that those responsible for the attack would be brought to justice. The governor has also been consulting widely with relevant stakeholders on key political issues in the state, including the ongoing debate over the zoning of the governorship seat.

While no final decision has been reached on whether the governorship should be zoned to the southern, northern, or western senatorial district, the governor is engaging in consultations with stakeholders in the overall interest of Nasarawa State. The ruling party is expected to make its position known to the public at the appropriate time.

The recent attack has raised concerns about security in the region, and the state government’s response is being closely watched. The governor’s assurance that those responsible will be brought to justice and that measures are being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future is seen as a positive step towards restoring peace and stability in the area. As the investigation into the attack continues, residents of Nasarawa State await further updates on the progress being made to ensure their safety and security.
