The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition parties and critics of President Bola Tinubu to engage in constructive debates ahead of the 2027 election. The party’s spokesman, Seye Oladejo, stated that democracy thrives on ideas rather than resentment or grievance-driven politics.
According to Oladejo, meaningful democratic engagement requires policy-based competition, not hostility or theatrics. He emphasized that democratic growth is sustained through the exchange of ideas, rather than persistent bitterness and obstruction. Oladejo criticized opposition parties for relying on provocation, incitement, and grievance trading, which he believes weakens democracy.
The APC spokesman noted that despite several electoral cycles, opposition parties have remained fragmented and lacking in coherent policy alternatives. He urged them to confront their internal shortcomings instead of attributing failures to institutions or imagined adversaries. Oladejo also called on opposition leaders to show consistency and moral courage in condemning terrorism, violence, and criminality without ethnic or political bias.
Oladejo warned against reckless rhetoric and constant predictions of national collapse, insisting that Nigeria is far from being a failed state. He emphasized that the APC-led Federal Government under President Tinubu is focused on correcting economic distortions and strengthening the country’s security framework. The administration is taking difficult decisions in the interest of long-term national stability, Oladejo said.
The APC spokesman urged opposition parties to embrace a new political culture founded on ideas, patriotism, and credible alternatives. He noted that Nigerians are increasingly uninterested in politics built on bitterness and are more likely to entrust their future to leadership that builds solutions rather than complains.
The call for constructive debate comes as the country prepares for the 2027 election. The APC’s statement highlights the need for opposition parties to shift their focus from criticism to policy-based engagement. As the political landscape continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how opposition parties will respond to the APC’s call for constructive debate. Meanwhile, the APC-led government remains focused on addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
