Atiku’s Son Expelled from Support Group

A group supporting former Nigerian Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expelled his son, Abba, following the latter’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The Atiku Haske Organisation, which backs Abubakar, announced the expulsion in a statement issued by its convener, Mai Bakari, on Sunday.

The move comes after Abba Abubakar defected to the APC on Thursday and directed his supporters to join the party and back the presidential ambitions of Bola Tinubu. However, Bakari stated that Abba has no authority to decide which party or candidate the group should support, as he is not the founder or originator of the organisation.

According to Bakari, the Atiku Haske Organisation was founded by its current members, who had invited Abba to join. He noted that Abba has not contributed financially to the group’s activities and does not possess its registration certificate. As a result, the group is not obligated to follow his directives. Instead, Abba is subject to the organisation’s regulations and has been dismissed as a member for failing to meet expectations.

The Atiku Haske Organisation has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Atiku Abubakar, who recently defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to pursue his 2027 presidential ambitions. The group had previously been part of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but resolved to move to the ADC en masse.

Atiku Abubakar has described his son’s decision to defect to the APC as a personal choice. The development highlights the complexities of Nigerian politics, where family ties and personal relationships often intersect with party affiliations and political ambitions. The Atiku Haske Organisation’s decision to expel Abba Abubakar underscores the autonomy of political groups in Nigeria and their ability to make independent decisions. As the country’s political landscape continues to evolve, such developments are likely to have significant implications for the future of Nigerian politics.
