The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the ongoing Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) collection exercise is currently limited to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in preparation for the upcoming Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026.
In a notice addressed to residents of other states, the Commission clarified that dates for PVC collection outside the FCT have not yet been determined. INEC assured eligible voters nationwide that once a schedule is finalized, it will be officially announced through all its platforms, ensuring transparency and timely communication.
The Commission urged voters in other states to await formal communication from INEC and cautioned against relying on unverified information circulating on unofficial channels. INEC expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their understanding and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to maintaining transparent and timely communication regarding electoral activities.
This announcement follows an earlier statement by INEC inviting FCT residents to collect their PVCs in preparation for the Area Council Election. The exercise, which commenced on January 22, will run through January 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily at all Registration Areas (Wards) across the FCT. Thereafter, PVC collection will continue at INEC Area Council Offices.
INEC encouraged eligible voters in the FCT to collect their PVCs early and participate fully in the electoral process, ensuring a smooth voting experience on election day. By doing so, voters can exercise their right to vote and contribute to the democratic process.
The clarification by INEC is significant as it provides clarity on the PVC collection process and helps to manage the expectations of eligible voters. As the electoral body continues to prepare for the Area Council elections, it is essential for voters to stay informed through official channels to avoid misinformation. With the election date approaching, INEC’s commitment to transparency and timely communication is crucial in ensuring the success of the electoral process.
