Nigeria can be great with peace and tolerance says Vice President

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has emphasized the importance of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among citizens, stating that the country has the potential to become one of the greatest nations on earth if its people learn to live in harmony. Shettima made this statement during a visit to Jos, Plateau State, where he paid homage to the Gbong Gwom Jos and Chairman, Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Jacob Gyang-Buba.

The Vice President stressed that all Nigerians are connected and share a common heritage, which supersedes any differences that may threaten to separate them. He urged citizens to continue living together, highlighting the importance of unity and peace in the country’s development. Shettima also acknowledged the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace and stability, describing them as custodians of cultural heritage and preachers of peace among their subjects.

During his visit, Shettima also witnessed the formal reception of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, into the All Progressives Congress (APC). He commended the cordial relationship between the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Governor Mutfwang, describing it as a positive development for the state. The Vice President expressed confidence that the realignment would boost the state’s image, ensure peace and tranquility, and lead to more dividends of democracy for the people.

Governor Mutfwang praised the working relationship between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Shettima, noting that it would continue to benefit the entire country. In response, the traditional ruler, Jacob Gyang-Buba, appealed for increased security efforts to address the challenges facing the state and the country, emphasizing the need for true reconciliation and respect among Nigerians. He stressed that both Islam and Christianity promote peace and condemn acts of insurgency and troublemaking.

The Vice President’s visit and the realignment of the governor with the APC are seen as significant developments in promoting peace and stability in Plateau State and the country at large. With a focus on unity and cooperation, Nigeria can work towards achieving its potential as a great nation, where citizens can live in harmony and enjoy the benefits of democracy.
