DeeOne claims Nigeria police invite politically motivated

Nigerian comedian and reality television personality Aderombi Adedayo, widely known as DeeOne, has alleged that a police invitation he received is politically motivated. The statement was made via an Instagram video posted on Monday morning, in which he announced he was proceeding to a police station for questioning.

In the video, DeeOne claimed the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Army should avoid political involvement. “My invitation was politically motivated. And let it be clear, Nigeria police and Nigerian army stay away from politics,” he stated. He further asserted that a small segment of the population is unafraid and urged citizens to fight for their rights, adding, “Nobody should beg for me.”

The comedian expressed concern over police conduct, alleging officers were seeking his residential information. “For Nigeria police to want to know where I stay, to want to kidnap me,” he said, while also referencing the country’s history of police brutality. He concluded by saying he was prepared for any outcome during the interrogation.

This development follows a report by Media Talk Africa indicating DeeOne was summoned by the Police Force Intelligence Department (FID) for a “routine interview” on Thursday, January 29, 2026. In his Monday video, he confirmed he was responding to that invitation.

DeeOne’s public refusal to accept the invitation as routine and his direct accusation of political interference highlight tensions between entertainers and state security agencies in Nigeria. His invocation of past police brutality incidents, such as the #EndSARS protests, frames the invitation within a broader national conversation about security force accountability.

The situation underscores the sensitive space where political commentary, celebrity, and law enforcement intersect in Nigeria. His immediate next steps—proceeding to the police station as declared—and the subsequent dialogue between his legal team and the FID will determine the trajectory of this situation. The police have not yet commented publicly on his allegations of political motivation.
