Davido Prioritizes Family Over Clubs Post-Marriage

Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has significantly shifted his personal priorities since marrying his long-term partner, Chioma Adeleke, opting for a more private, family-centred lifestyle over his previous high-profile social scene.

In a recent conversation on The Long Form podcast, the multiple award-winning artist reflected on a notable evolution in his behaviour. He candidly described his younger self, following his rapid rise to international fame, as “very reckless,” frequently spending nights at clubs. This phase, characterised by abundant freedom, power, and financial success, has been replaced by a deliberate focus on domestic life.

Davido explained that he now prefers staying at home with his family or using video calls to connect with his wife while travelling. He provided a specific example from a recent nearly two-month stay in Nigeria, stating he did not attend any clubs. Instead, he found enjoyment in a low-key routine: working in his studio, hosting barbecues for close friends, and sleeping late into the morning hours. He noted that evenings often conclude with him calling his wife on FaceTime before drifting to sleep.

The musician clarified that his withdrawal from nightlife is not absolute. He continues to honour professional commitments, including international gigs and selective party invitations from close associates. However, he explicitly stated that he now prioritises sleep and quality time with his family above leisure outings.

This public account from Davido, born David Adeleke, highlights a personal recalibration following his marriage. The change marks a departure from the publicly documented nightlife that once characterised his off-stage persona. His comments offer insight into how one of Africa’s most prominent musicians is consciously managing the demands of global stardom with a new chapter in his private life.

The shift underscores a broader narrative of personal maturation, suggesting that for Davido, the responsibilities of marriage and family now define his concept of fun and relaxation more than the bustling social circuits of his earlier career. His experience illustrates a conscious trade-off between the glittering aspects of fame and the quieter rewards of home life.
