The Lagos State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has framed recent by-election victories in Rivers State, Kano State, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as a public endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. The party’s statement, issued by spokesperson Mogaji Seye Oladejo on Sunday, credited the wins to voter confidence in the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
According to the Lagos APC, the outcomes in the three constituencies serve as a “clear and unmistakable referendum” on President Tinubu’s governance. The party asserted that the results reflect broad support for ongoing economic reforms, infrastructure projects, and institutional reforms at both federal and state levels. It argued that Nigerians have rejected opposition criticism and chosen continuity, stating that “the people have spoken decisively through the ballot” during a period of national challenge.
The statement also criticized opposition parties, describing them as “uninspiring” and reliant on rhetoric rather than concrete policy alternatives. The Lagos APC further contended that strong social media presence does not guarantee electoral success, noting that “democracy is ultimately decided by voters, not virtual trends.” This points to a perceived disconnect between online discourse and on-ground voting patterns.
The party commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting the elections and praised security agencies for maintaining order. It also recognized the efforts of its own members, campaign teams, and volunteers in mobilizing grassroots support.
Looking ahead, the Lagos APC suggested the by-election momentum signals continued popularity for the party, stating that the results could make the 2027 general elections less competitive. “If morning shows the day, then the forthcoming 2027 national elections may well be a walk in the park for the APC,” the statement noted.
The by-elections, held in key regions, are viewed as mid-term tests for the Tinubu administration amid Nigeria’s economic pressures. While the APC interprets the wins as a validation of its policies, opposition parties have not yet issued comprehensive analyses of the results. The outcomes may influence political strategies as the nation approaches the next electoral cycle.
The party concluded by urging all Nigerians, including political opponents, to unite in national development efforts, reaffirming its support for President Tinubu’s leadership.
