The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State successfully concluded its local government congresses across all 27 local government areas (LGAs) on Saturday, a key internal exercise to elect grassroots executives ahead of future electoral cycles. The process was reported as peaceful, with party officials noting a consensus-driven approach in several councils.
According to media observations, the congresses held at LGA headquarters proceeded without incident. In visited councils including Ringim, Taura, Gagarawa, Jahun, and Miga, party executives were selected by consensus, adhering to APC constitutional guidelines. This method aimed to foster unity and minimize internal friction during the selection process.
State legislator and Miga LGA Congress Committee Chairman, Hon. [Name unclear from source, possibly “the member representing Kanya Babba” – use title only], attributed the tranquil conduct of the congresses to the leadership of Governor Umar Namadi. He stated that the governor’s exemplary leadership had cultivated significant stability within the state chapter of the party. Echoing this sentiment, some local government chairmen who spoke at the events publicly commended Governor Namadi for his sustained efforts in ensuring party cohesion. One collective statement from local chairmen expressed satisfaction with the governor’s style and pledged collaboration with the newly elected executives to secure party victory in the 2027 elections.
An APC stakeholder in the state, Hon. Yahaya Gidan Maza, projected confidence in the party’s prospects, citing a perceived shift in political allegiance. He claimed that developmental projects under the current administration had attracted key figures from opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), toward the APC. Based on this, he forecasted a state-wide sweep for the APC in the forthcoming polls. He subsequently advised the newly elected local executives to prioritise inclusive engagement with all members to consolidate peace and unity for electoral success.
These local government congresses follow the APC’s ward-level elections conducted across Jigawa’s 287 wards earlier in the week. The sequential completion of both ward and LGA congresses signifies the finalisation of the party’s first-tier elective structures at the local level in Jigawa. This organisational groundwork is widely seen as critical for mobilising support and candidate selection for subsequent state and national elections. The reported consensus and peaceful atmosphere underscore the APC’s current dominant position and internal cohesion in Jigawa State as it prepares for the next electoral contest.
