Dangote Cement Hosts Zero Harm Driver Safety Campaign 2026

Dangote Cement Transport has reinforced its road safety agenda with the successful staging of its first-quarter 2026 Drivers’ Safety Awareness Campaign at its Obajana plant in Kogi State. The event, themed “2026, Our Year of Zero Harm,” gathered hundreds of truck drivers, company management, security agencies, and community leaders to reaffirm the company’s target of zero accidents, injuries, and unsafe practices.

The campaign underscores a strategic push for enhanced road safety within one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest commercial truck fleets. During the event, Divisional Director of Transport for Obajana, Col. Hemant Rana (Retd.), positioned safety as a collective duty rather than a mere corporate directive. He urged drivers to adopt vigilance, discipline, and personal accountability on every journey.

Further detailing the initiative, Fleet Safety Lead for Nigeria, Mr. Ozovehe Abraham, highlighted core objectives including strict adherence to safety standards, defensive driving, and the role of drivers as safety ambassadors. Mr. Charles Theophilus, Head of Pre-Trip Inspection, stressed that collaboration with regulatory bodies is essential for elevating national road safety standards.

Representatives from key enforcement agencies delivered complementary messages. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) warned that substance abuse severely impairs driver performance and public safety. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Nigeria Police Force emphasized compliance with traffic laws and disciplined highway conduct. Security consultants also urged heightened awareness and full regulatory compliance.

The company’s safety strategy extends beyond awareness campaigns. Dangote Cement Transport has invested in telematics and GPS tracking systems for real-time monitoring of driver behaviour, speed, and route adherence. This technology, expanded following a 2025 drivers’ retreat, enables proactive intervention and reinforces accountability.

Complementing these technological investments is a continuous driver retraining programme aimed at refreshing skills and embedding a robust safety culture. The company also links its transport discipline to broader community sustainability efforts, focusing on safer roads and reduced accidents in host communities.

The Obajana plant’s extensive fleet operations make this integrated approach—combining training, technology, and multi-agency partnership—central to its operational integrity. The 2026 campaign signifies a sustained, company-wide commitment to mitigating transport risks and setting a benchmark for road safety within Nigeria’s industrial sector.
