Amotekun: Ogun Governor Approves 1,000 New Recruits

Ogun State Governor Approves Recruitment of 1,000 Additional Amotekun Personnel

The Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has approved the recruitment of 1,000 new personnel for the state’s community-based security outfit, the Amotekun Corps. The development aims to strengthen the agency’s operational capacity across the state’s 20 local government areas.

The recruitment exercise, scheduled for 2026, was announced in a statement by the Corps Commander, Brig Gen Alade Adedigba (rtd.). He confirmed that the initiative is part of a continued strategy to reinforce community policing, with a particular focus on rural communities, border corridors, and identified vulnerable flashpoints.

This new intake follows the recruitment of nearly 1,300 operatives by the Corps in the previous year, signaling a sustained investment in the state’s internal security framework. Gen. Adedigba stated that the addition of 1,000 personnel will further deepen the Corps’ grassroots presence and support crime prevention and rapid response operations.

Prospective applicants are directed to submit their applications, at no cost, via the official portal: ogunstateamotekun.com.ng. The application window will be open from Thursday, February 26, to Friday, March 13, 2026. The Corps Commander urged candidates to carefully review all eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and physical fitness standards before applying.

A comprehensive screening exercise for shortlisted candidates is planned from Monday, March 23, to April 8, 2026. Applicants are advised to prepare accordingly and adhere to provided guidelines.

Gen. Adedigba emphasized that the entire process is free, transparent, and solely merit-based. He warned the public against fraudsters or unauthorized individuals soliciting money in connection with the recruitment, urging vigilance.

The expansion of the Amotekun Corps underscores Ogun State’s strategic approach to consolidating security gains through intelligence-driven policing at the community level. The 2026 recruitment is expected to significantly enhance the Corps’ manpower for sustained territorial coverage and operational effectiveness.
