The Kogi State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has elected Comrade Gabriel Amari as the new Chairman of the state council. Amari, who was returned unopposed, succeeds Comrade Onu Edoka, whose two‑term tenure ended on Monday, and will lead the council for the next four years. Prior to his election, Amari served as Chairman of the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Kogi chapter.
The newly elected executive members are Comrades Ebenezer Adeyemi and Opaluwa Eleojo as Vice Chairmen; Salifu Joel as Treasurer; Omuya Momoh and Awodi Ochala as Auditors; and Bolanle Inubiwon and Oyiza Sanni as Ex‑Officios. The NLC National Returning Officer, Comrade Roseline Uba, swore in the new Kogi NLC executive during the NLC 8th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference held on Tuesday in Lokoja.
In his address, Ajaero urged the new Executive Council to surpass the achievements of its predecessor and to maintain a harmonious relationship with the State Government for the benefit of workers. The NLC President reaffirmed his commitment to making the welfare of Nigerian workers his top priority.
Accepting his appointment, Chairman Amari praised the outgoing chairman, Comrade Onuh Edoka, and his executive team, promising to build on their numerous accomplishments. He thanked the delegates and the entire Kogi workforce for their support, stating, “With your support and cooperation, we will move Kogi workers to the next level. I assure you we will not disappoint the confidence you have placed in us. We will use diplomacy, dialogue, and persuasion to get the government to meet our demands.” Amari also called on the State Government to establish quarterly meetings with organized labour to discuss and resolve issues, thereby enhancing industrial harmony.
In his valedictory speech, Edoka expressed gratitude to workers for their unprecedented support and urged them to extend the same cooperation to the new Executive Council. He highlighted his achievements over eight years, including the completion and commissioning of the new Labour Secretariat House, and commended the governor for improvements in workers’ welfare, regular salary payments, remuneration, and promotions with cash‑back incentives. Edoka advised the incoming council to sustain and improve the peaceful relationship between organised labour and the state government through diplomacy and dialogue.
The newly built Labour House, located at 200 Housing Estate, Lokoja, was inaugurated on Monday by the NLC National President.
