Nasarawa PDP suspends state chairman over alleged misconduct

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State has suspended its State Chairman, Adamu Bako Ninga, for one month pending a disciplinary investigation over accusations of gross misconduct and anti-party activities.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the party’s State Working Committee (SWC) on March 25, 2026, following extensive deliberations. A suspension letter, signed by State Secretary Kafas D. Kaura, accused Ninga of multiple actions and inactions that contravene the party’s constitution.

The PDP enumerated several specific allegations against the chairman. These include leaking sensitive party information to rival political groups, exhibiting a high-handed leadership style, and making unilateral decisions without consulting the SWC. Other claims detail his alleged failure to convene crucial party meetings and engaging in activities deemed detrimental to the party’s interests.

The party directed Ninga to immediately hand over all party property in his possession to the Deputy State Chairman. The suspension, citing Section 57(3) of the PDP constitution, is effective for 30 days to allow for a formal disciplinary probe. The party stated that further measures will be determined upon the conclusion of this internal investigation.

This internal party action highlights ongoing efforts by the PDP to enforce discipline among its leadership as it prepares for future electoral contests. The outcome of the investigation into Ninga’s conduct could significantly influence the party’s cohesion and strategy in Nasarawa State, a key battleground in northern Nigeria. The process underscores the PDP’s constitutional mechanisms for addressing internal conflicts, a routine yet critical aspect of political party management in Nigeria’s democratic landscape. The final decision following the investigation will shape the state chapter’s leadership and operational direction in the coming months.
