Nasarawa NSUBEB Chairman Engages in National ABEP Curriculum Review Dialogue

Nasarawa State Basic Education Leader Joins National Dialogue on Curriculum Reform

The Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, NSUBEB, Kassim Muhammad Kassim, is participating in a national stakeholders’ dialogue in Abuja aimed at reviewing and strengthening the accelerated basic education curriculum.

The engagement brings together education leaders from across the country to build consensus and deepen stakeholder commitment to the Accelerated Basic Education Programme, ABEP. The forum is also focused on developing a more robust and inclusive curriculum framework to guide the initiative.

Discussions at the meeting are centred on validating key priorities for the ongoing review, aligning policy directions, and addressing implementation challenges to improve learning outcomes at the foundational level. In addition, the dialogue seeks to ensure that the curriculum review aligns with the objectives of the SCALE innovation programme, with emphasis on enhancing foundational literacy and numeracy, integrating effective teaching approaches, and identifying sustainable strategies for scaling impact nationwide.

The national dialogue reflects growing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s basic education system by ensuring that curriculum reforms are both evidence-based and widely supported by key stakeholders. With participants including state education board leaders, federal ministry officials, and development partners, the forum aims to produce actionable recommendations that will inform the next phase of curriculum implementation across the country.

Education experts have long stressed the need for a curriculum that not only meets global standards but also addresses local learning needs, particularly in underserved communities. The Accelerated Basic Education Programme is designed to provide flexible, age-appropriate learning opportunities for out-of-school children and youth, making this review a critical step toward achieving broader educational inclusion.

The Nasarawa State representative’s involvement highlights the state’s active role in national education reform and its commitment to improving foundational learning outcomes for children across the region. As the dialogue progresses, stakeholders are expected to finalise key elements of the revised curriculum, setting the stage for pilot programmes and eventual nationwide rollout.
