The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State has re-elected its former State Chairman, James Okoroma, along with 15 members of the previous State Executive. This decision was made following a voice vote during the party’s State Congress, which took place at the Kanu Nwankwo Sports Arena in Owerri. Among the re-elected executive members are Deputy State Chairman Demian Ezeagu, State Publicity Secretary Macdonald Amadi, State Legal Adviser Barr. Kissinger Ikeokwu, and chairmen representing the three geopolitical zones of the state. The congress was overseen by a committee led by Okem UK from the ADC’s national headquarters.
Former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha addressed the attendees and expressed his satisfaction with the turnout of party delegates from all 27 local government areas. He highlighted that the party has already registered over 200,000 members and assured that membership drives would continue beyond the congresses. Another former governor, Achike Udenwa, praised the delegates and party members for their orderly conduct. He described the ADC as one of the country’s well-organized and recognized political parties, emphasizing that it remains open to new members. Udenwa attributed the smooth conduct of the State Congress to the successful organization of earlier ward and local government area congresses across the state.
In his acceptance speech, Okoroma expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for entrusting him with another term in office. He pledged to serve with integrity and dedication, with the aim of strengthening the party’s position and securing electoral victories in the state. “With the leadership of two former governors, there is no reason the party cannot lay a solid foundation in Imo State,” he stated. The re-election of the State Executive signifies continuity in leadership and sets the stage for the party’s strategic planning ahead of future elections in the state.
