Nigeria has signed a revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Morocco to enhance air connectivity and strengthen tourism and economic ties between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on behalf of the Nigerian government during the Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS) in Marrakech.
The new framework aims to expand flight operations, create opportunities for airlines, and deepen commercial cooperation between Nigeria and Morocco. According to a statement from the Minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the deal introduces a modern structure to facilitate greater movement of people and goods, while supporting safety, security, and environmental sustainability.
The agreement is expected to boost trade, tourism, investment flows, and people-to-people exchanges. It also aligns with broader continental aviation goals under the African Union’s Single African Air Transport Market initiative, which seeks to liberalize air transport across the continent.
Nigeria and Morocco have maintained strong bilateral relations in recent years, with cooperation extending to sectors such as agriculture, energy, and infrastructure. This updated air services pact is seen as a further step in consolidating those ties through improved aviation links.
Officials from both countries described the agreement as a milestone in their aviation partnership, with potential long-term benefits for airlines, airports, and regulatory institutions in both nations.
