Sporting Lagos Secures NPFL Promotion After 1-0 Win Over Osun United

Sporting Lagos have secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) after a 1-0 victory over Osun United on Thursday. The decisive goal came in the 17th minute from Alex Leme, sealing the win that ensured their return to the top flight after a two-year absence.

Managed by Jeffrey Butler, Sporting Lagos finished top of Conference B with 36 points from 18 matches. Their promotion adds to the growing list of clubs returning to the NPFL, following earlier promotions for Inter Lagos and Doma United.

In related fixtures, Akwa United secured second place in the conference despite a narrow 2-1 win over Solution FC. The Promise Keepers took the lead through Aniebiet Sunday in the 50th minute, with Michael Okenwa doubling the advantage three minutes later. Solution FC pulled one back late in the game, but it was not enough to alter the standings.

Sporting Lagos’ promotion marks a significant achievement for the club and its supporters, who have seen their team rise through the ranks to reclaim a place among Nigeria’s elite football clubs. The NPFL will now prepare for the new season with an expanded roster of teams, reflecting the competitive nature of Nigeria’s domestic football landscape.
