Bills’ DeWayne Carter Confirms Achilles Recovery for Training Camp

Buffalo Bills defensive lineman DeWayne Carter has expressed confidence in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, stating he will be fully fit for the start of training camp. Speaking on the Centered on Buffalo podcast, Carter, who is now eight months post-surgery, said his rehabilitation has progressed well and he feels strong enough to return to full participation.

The 2024 third-round draft pick suffered the season-ending injury during the previous campaign, cutting short what was expected to be a promising rookie season. Carter’s versatility as both a tackle and end has been a key asset for the Bills’ defensive line, and he believes the team’s new defensive scheme under coordinator Jim Leonhard could further highlight his skill set.

The Bills are transitioning to a system that incorporates elements of the 3-4 defense, which Carter said may suit his ability to play multiple positions along the line. “I think with that 3-4 element that we have now it’s going to be interesting to see,” Carter remarked. “Learn every spot and we’ll figure out where to go from there.”

Carter’s return is significant for Buffalo as the team looks to bolster its defensive front following a season in which injuries hampered depth and performance. His ability to adapt to different roles within the defensive line could provide the Bills with added flexibility as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Training camp will serve as the first real test of Carter’s recovery, with the coaching staff expected to monitor his workload closely. If he can regain his pre-injury form, Carter has the potential to become a valuable contributor in Buffalo’s revamped defensive system.

The Bills open their training camp schedule next month, with Carter’s availability seen as a positive sign for a defense aiming to improve upon last season’s results.
