The Labour Party has officially denied the existence of any active social media accounts, labeling an account on X named “LABOUR PARTY (LP)NIG” with the handle @LabourpartyNGR_ as fraudulent. This account is allegedly operated by Julius Abure and his faction, and the party clarified that it falsely claims to represent their views. In a statement signed by Ken Eluma Asogwa, the Senior Special Adviser on Media to the Interim National Chairman, the party emphasized that preliminary investigations revealed the account had been disowned by the party back in February. Following this disavowal, the operators of the account changed both its name and handle in an effort to mislead the public.
The Labour Party stated that its only official social media accounts, which are currently inactive, include its Facebook page, Labour Party-Nig, with approximately 12,000 followers, and its X account, LabourPartyNG, which has around 837,000 followers. The party has submitted a petition to the Nigerian Police to recover the official X account, which is still under the control of the former leadership. The statement further noted that the situation is under active investigation, with individuals such as Barr. Julius Abure and Alhaji Umar Farouk cooperating with the Deputy Inspector General of Police from the Force Intelligence Department. They are providing information regarding their activities, including the unauthorized use of the party’s social media platforms.
Until the official accounts are recovered, the Labour Party reiterated that it does not operate any social media channels for public communication. All official information will be disseminated exclusively through authorized press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman. Any changes to this communication structure will be formally announced. The public is strongly advised to disregard any content from the fraudulent account @LabourpartyNGR_ and any posts currently circulating via LabourPartyNG, including a recent claim that the party is awaiting the return of Mr. Peter Obi and Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. The Labour Party has described such statements as entirely unauthorized and not representative of its official position.
