2027: APC regaining footing in Abia, LP losing ground – Forum

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released its timetable for the 2027 election cycle, outlining the schedule for internal primaries and candidate selection. Nomination forms are priced at N100 million for presidential aspirants and N50 million for those seeking the governorship ticket. Sales will begin at the APC National Secretariat on Saturday, April 25, and run until Saturday, May 2, 2026.

Primary elections are slated for May 15–23, 2026. The presidential primary will be held on May 15–16, the Senate primary on May 20, and the governorship primary on May 23. Fees for other elective positions have also been disclosed: N6 million for House of Assembly aspirants, N10 million for House of Representatives candidates, and N20 million for Senate hopefuls.

This announcement arrives as political parties across Nigeria intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections. The APC, in power since 2015, faces mounting pressure to maintain its dominance amid growing opposition and internal dissent. Critics argue that the high cost of nomination forms could restrict participation to wealthy individuals and deepen the role of money in Nigerian politics. Supporters, however, contend that the fees are necessary to ensure that only serious, financially capable candidates contest.

As the political landscape heats up, the APC’s timetable provides a clear roadmap for its members and signals the start of a competitive race for the party’s tickets. With the 2027 elections still years away, the coming months are likely to see increased activity as aspirants position themselves for the primaries and the broader electoral battle ahead.
