2027: We'll field presidential candidate, not merging with any party - NRM

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has announced that it has no intention of merging with any other political party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s National Chairman, Prince Chinedu Obi, affirmed that NRM is preparing to field a strong presidential candidate capable of challenging the incumbent government. “We are not planning on merging with any political party or joining a coalition,” Obi said. “We will produce our presidential candidate through our own internal processes.”

Obi also noted that the Federal High Court resolved an internal dispute within the party earlier that day. Justice Joyce Abdulmalik dismissed an appeal filed by a faction led by Chief Edozie Njoku, effectively ending the leadership crisis that had threatened party unity. He emphasized that NRM is now united and positioned as one of the strongest political parties in Nigeria, free from the internal divisions that have plagued some opposition groups.

The party remains open to supporting any credible aspirant willing to contest any available position in the upcoming elections. “We want Nigerians to know that the perception of crisis within NRM is unfounded,” Obi said. “There is no internal crisis in our party. The NRM remains one of the few stable and prepared political movements in the country.” He concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to offering Nigerians an alternative to the current administration, describing NRM as ready to “rescue Nigeria from its present situation.”

The 2027 elections are expected to draw significant interest from both established and emerging political movements, with NRM positioning itself as a credible contender in the race for the presidency and other key offices.
