Ebonyi State APC adopts consensus candidates for 2027 elections
ABAKALIKI, Ebonyi State — The Ebonyi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced on Thursday that it has agreed on a single set of candidates for all elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections, effectively eliminating intra‑party contests across the state.
Governor Francis Nwifuru made the declaration after a stakeholders’ consultative meeting held at the Government House, Ochudo Centenary City. Speaking to reporters, the governor said the meeting was convened to discuss key party issues and to chart a unified strategy for the upcoming elections.
“as the leader of the party, we convened a meeting of stakeholders and deliberated on issues concerning our party,” Nwifuru said, adding that the outcome reflected a collective agreement among members.
Former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, briefed the press on the process that led to the consensus. He said the governor had informed party stakeholders a week earlier about plans to hold joint consultative sessions across Ebonyi State. Those meetings culminated in a larger gathering where outstanding matters were resolved and candidates for every elective office were agreed upon.
“For the first time in the history of the state, stakeholders, electorates and party members were fully involved in selecting those who will fly the party’s flag,” Anyim remarked, describing the session as productive and unanimous in its endorsement of the consensus approach.
The former Senate President emphasized that the agreement means no constituency will hold a contested primary for APC tickets. “The implication is that there is no constituency that is going to be contested because we have reached consensus on all elective offices,” he said.
Anyim praised Governor Nwifuru’s consultative leadership style, attributing the unity to the governor’s ability to bring together diverse party actors. He expressed confidence that the inclusive process will bolster the APC’s prospects in the 2027 elections, noting that “because the people are part of the process, the election will be easier for us to win.”
Details of the consensus candidates for the various positions are expected to be released in a formal statement later this week. The stakeholders’ meeting, which began at approximately 4:00 p.m., concluded late in the evening after extensive deliberations on party strategy and candidate selection.
The adoption of a unified ticket positions the Ebonyi APC to present a consolidated front in the upcoming national and state elections, signalling a strategic shift toward internal cohesion and coordinated campaign efforts.
