NPF Recommends Dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and Team Over Unlawful Killing of Mene Ogidi

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the immediate recommendation for dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and three members of his team following a thorough investigation into the unlawful killing of Mr. Mene Ogidi.

The investigation, conducted by the Police Monitoring Unit, established that the officers’ actions constituted professional misconduct, abuse of office, and conduct likely to cause a breach of public peace. The Police Service Commission has since ratified the recommendations, making the dismissals effective immediately.

Key Developments in the Case:

  • Legal Action: The case file has been formally forwarded to the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) for vetting and prosecution.
  • Due Process: The Force leadership emphasized that “no criminal suspicion, however grave, justifies extrajudicial action,” asserting that every suspect is entitled to due process.
  • Ongoing Manhunt: Tactical teams have been deployed to arrest a driver and two members of a vigilante group who remain at large in connection with the incident.
  • Commitment to Justice: The NPF extended condolences to the victim’s family, reassuring them and the international community that the matter is being handled with full transparency and that no officer is above accountability.

The Force has pledged full cooperation with the AGF’s office to ensure the matter reached a logical conclusion in a court of competent jurisdiction.
