Video: Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Officially Join NDC Ahead of 2027

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso have officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), marking a major political realignment ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.

The confirmation came directly from the NDC’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle, where the party shared video footage showing both political leaders receiving their NDC membership cards from the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe, during a formal ceremony in Abuja.

According to the party, the membership presentation signals the official integration of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso into the NDC’s national political structure, solidifying the party’s growing position as a significant opposition force.

The event reportedly took place in the presence of former Bayelsa State Governor Senator Seriake Dickson, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the NDC’s broader political strategy.

Peter Obi’s entry into the NDC brings with it the influence of his widely recognised “Obidient” support base, while Kwankwaso’s inclusion significantly strengthens the party’s northern political reach through the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The alliance is being interpreted by political observers as one of the most consequential opposition consolidations in recent Nigerian political history, potentially positioning the NDC as a stronger platform for coalition-building ahead of the next presidential race.

Their formal defection follows increasing uncertainty within previous opposition arrangements and appears aimed at creating a broader, more unified political structure capable of mounting a serious national challenge in 2027.
