Arise TV Anchor to Scrutinize NDC and Peter Obi’s Policies Ahead of the 2027 Election

Rufai Oseni, anchor of Arise Television’s Morning Show, announced that he will subject the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) and its prospective presidential candidate to a detailed examination ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking on Wednesday, Oseni said the party must articulate its policy direction and present a clear manifesto within the next few days. He warned that defections and mounting momentum are insufficient without a concrete programme for Nigerians. “The party should be able to have an ethos and a manifesto in the next couple of days,” he stated, adding that the NDC’s credibility will be judged on the strength and clarity of its proposals.

Oseni also said he intends to interview former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, urging the prospective candidate to outline rigorous policy frameworks on key national issues. “We will press his neck,” Oseni said, stressing that any claim to change the country must be backed by detailed plans. He listed areas he expects the NDC to address, including foreign‑exchange policy, fuel subsidies, social welfare schemes and broader economic reforms.

The broadcaster’s anchor emphasized that verification of party registrations or membership figures is not a priority until substantive policy documents are released. “If I don’t see it in the next couple of days, I will be the biggest antagonist,” he warned, indicating that lack of a comprehensive agenda will invite intense scrutiny.

The NDC, formed in 2022, has attracted a number of high‑profile defectors from established parties, bolstering its profile ahead of the 2027 election cycle. However, its organisational structure and policy platform remain under development. Oseni’s call for an imminent manifesto places additional pressure on the party as it prepares to select its presidential flagbearer.

The upcoming interview with Peter Obi is expected to take place on Arise Television’s morning programme, providing a platform for the candidate to respond to the anchor’s demands for accountability and detailed policy proposals. Observers note that the scrutiny could shape public perception of the NDC’s readiness to contest the 2027 presidential race.

Oseni concluded by highlighting the broader stakes: “We can’t build a joke as a country. If the NDC does not show where the party is going in terms of provision for the people, we will press their neck.” The anchor’s ultimatum underscores the growing expectation among Nigerian voters for concrete, actionable plans from emerging political formations ahead of the next election.
