Around 4,000 police officers were deployed across London on Saturday as tens of thousands of demonstrators gathered for two large rallies that took place simultaneously in the capital’s busiest weekend.

Supporters of far‑right activist Tommy Robinson marched through central London under heavy security in a “Unite the Kingdom” rally, while a separate pro‑Palestinian demonstration marked Nakba Day, commemorating the displacement of Palestinians that followed the creation of Israel in 1948. Police officials estimated roughly 50,000 participants at the nationalist rally and about 30,000 at the pro‑Palestinian march.

To keep the two crowds apart, officers employed drones, mounted units, police dogs and helicopters, and imposed route restrictions as the demonstrations moved through Westminster and central London. The streets also saw football supporters travelling to Wembley Stadium.

At the Robinson rally, participants waved Union Jack flags and chanted against immigration and multiculturalism, with some claiming that British culture was under threat. Along a different route, pro‑Palestinian marchers carried banners calling for a cease‑fire in Gaza and for justice for Palestinian refugees.

Metropolitan Police said its priority was to prevent clashes between the groups, respond to any hate crimes or violence, and maintain public safety throughout the city.

The twin protests highlighted the city’s capacity to host large, oppositional gatherings while managing the risk of disorder. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and have urged demonstrators to remain peaceful as further events are planned in the coming weeks.
