FRSC inducts 145 fresh special marshals in Enugu — Daily Nigerian

ENUGU—The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) inducted 145 new Special Marshals on Saturday, bolstering the state’s traffic‑management workforce. The ceremony, held in Enugu, was presided over by Sector Commander Franklin Agbakoba, who reminded the inductees of the corps’ long‑standing standards of discipline and professionalism.

Speaking through his deputy, Deputy Core Commander Kyrian Okolo, Agbakoba described the Special Marshals as “the backbone of volunteerism in the country.” He praised their willingness to devote time and resources to public service, calling the act “patriotism and love for the nation in action.” According to the sector commander, the inductees have completed intensive physical and psychological training designed to uphold the FRSC’s core values of integrity, service and professionalism. He thanked them for joining the agency’s effort to maintain accident‑free roads.

State Commissioner of Police Mamman Giwa, represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations Oliver Odimega, commended the marshals for serving “without expecting a kobo” and pledged police cooperation to ensure smooth joint operations across the state. Dr Elijah Willie, Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Enugu Command, also congratulated the new volunteers. Speaking through his personal assistant Emmanuel Nwatu, the commandant urged the marshals to remain faithful in their duties, noting that “the Almighty has ways of rewarding good work and sacrifice.”

FRSC State Coordinator of Special Marshals Anthony Orji warned the newcomers against any form of lawlessness. He stressed the importance of keeping vehicle documents current and emphasized that the marshals must first model compliance before enforcing traffic regulations on the public. “Special Marshals are men and women of proven integrity who stand out in their workplaces and execute traffic duties responsibly,” Orji said.

Among the inductees, Dr Godwin Lamidi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to public safety, saying the role would allow him to impact lives positively throughout Enugu State.

The induction expands the FRSC’s volunteer network at a time when road safety remains a critical concern nationwide. By integrating more trained Special Marshals, the agency aims to improve traffic flow, reduce accidents and reinforce the collaborative effort between the FRSC, police and civil‑defence forces. The newly sworn marshals are expected to begin patrol duties immediately, supporting ongoing traffic‑management initiatives across Enugu.
