Imole Council Demands Probe of Fadahunsi Voter Intimidation

The Imole Campaign Council, the organisation backing Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has demanded an immediate investigation by security agencies into alleged voter intimidation by Senator Francis Fadahunsi during Saturday’s governorship election.

The call follows the circulation of a video purporting to show the senator addressing All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters at Polling Unit 1, located at the NUD Primary School Collation Centre in Ilase-Ijesa. In the footage, Fadahunsi is heard instructing supporters to “monitor their ballot” and appears to warn voters against casting their ballots inappropriately, though the recording cuts off before the full statement is completed.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, spokesman for the Adeleke campaign, condemned the senator’s actions as “scandalous, unacceptable and undemocratic.” He urged security operatives to intervene swiftly to halt what he described as voter intimidation by Fadahunsi and his associates.

“This is scandalous, unacceptable and undemocratic. The security agencies must immediately stop the voter intimidation by Fadahunsi and his foot soldiers,” Olajengbesi said in a statement.

The campaign council noted that the incident follows a previous controversy involving the senator’s remarks about members of the Accord Party. Fadahunsi later clarified those comments, stating they were a metaphorical call to defeat the party at the polls rather than an incitement to violence. Olajengbesi argued the latest development suggests a pattern of behaviour.

“One would have thought that he had learnt his lessons with his last despicable outing, but alas! A leopard never changes its spot,” he said.

The council has urged relevant security authorities to examine the video evidence and take appropriate action should the allegations be substantiated. The development underscores ongoing tensions surrounding electoral conduct in the state, with stakeholders emphasising the need for voters to exercise their franchise without coercion or interference.
