Seriake Dickson Warns Against Intimidation in 2027 Elections

Nigeria Democratic Congress national leader Seriake Dickson has warned against voter intimidation and electoral manipulation ahead of the 2027 general Elections, declaring that attempts to falsify results or deploy security forces to coerce citizens will fail.

In a statement posted on his verified X account, the former Bayelsa State governor said politicians planning to write fake results and intimidate voters with soldiers, police, and thugs are “living in the past.” He vowed that no one would be allowed to intimidate voters in their communities in Bayelsa State during the next election cycle.

Dickson drew on his experience leading Bayelsa in opposition since 2015, stating he had helped prevent the state from being overrun by what he described as desperate politicians seeking to use federal institutions to intimidate innocent voters. He called on NDC members, candidates, stakeholders, and supporters to maintain their resolve despite ongoing acts of intimidation and efforts to narrow democratic space.

The party leader outlined a strategy focused on civic education and peaceful mobilization. He said the NDC would continue educating young people, women, community leaders, and all citizens to reject violence, resist intimidation, participate peacefully in the democratic process, vote out oppressive leaders, and lawfully defend their votes.

Dickson framed the struggle as essential to Nigeria’s democratic survival. “Nigeria, and indeed no state in Nigeria, must ever be allowed to become a one-party state,” he wrote, expressing gratitude to supporters for their belief, trust, and solidarity.

The statement comes amid growing concerns about electoral integrity and the use of state security apparatus in Nigerian politics. Dickson’s warning reflects broader opposition anxieties about the fairness of future contests, particularly in regions where incumbents control significant institutional leverage. His emphasis on lawful vote defense and peaceful participation signals a strategic shift toward grassroots mobilization and legal resistance rather than confrontation.
