The Military Pension Board has issued a stark warning to retirees and their families: do not hand over personal or financial details to anyone claiming to help with pension benefits. The alert comes amid a surge in fraud attempts, with scammers posing as official representatives to steal sensitive information.

Squadron Leader Aliyu Mohammed, the board’s public relations officer, confirmed that fraudsters are contacting pensioners and next of kin with offers of loans, benefit processing, or other financial services. In reality, these individuals are after Bank Verification Numbers, National Identification Numbers, bank account details, and even ATM card data.

The board made it clear that it never hires third parties to collect such information for any purpose, including pension payments or gratuities. Any unsolicited request for these details should be viewed with suspicion and reported immediately.

Pensioners are urged to conduct all official business solely through recognized Military Pension Board channels and designated contact lines. The board pledged to continue working with law enforcement to protect retirees from these predatory schemes.
