The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has expelled its governorship candidate, Muhammad Gumel, over alleged anti‑party activities. Acting state chairman Kabiru Hussaini announced the expulsion while briefing journalists in Dutse, the state capital, according to a Daily Post report. Hussaini urged ADC members to back the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mustapha Lamido, insisting that only the PDP could prevent the state from total collapse. “We are directing all our party’s supporters to support the PDP gubernatorial candidate because it’s only the PDP that can salvage the state from total collapse,” he said.
Gumel reportedly relinquished his candidacy and shifted his support to the All Progressives Congress. In response, he claimed the acting chairman had no authority to expel him, noting that the chairman had himself been expelled from the party by the national headquarters on 22 September 2022 and is not recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission or security agencies.
