APC chieftain Olatunbosun Oyintiloye has urged political parties, candidates, and their supporters to maintain peace throughout the August 15 governorship election in Osun State, warning that no political ambition justifies the loss of life.
The former lawmaker made the appeal on Sunday while addressing journalists in Osogbo, the state capital, amid rising political tension ahead of the poll. He called on all stakeholders to reject violence and prioritize the safety of residents during the electoral period.
Oyintiloye described the deployment of security personnel across the state as a standard preventive measure rather than a cause for alarm, noting that such operations are routine during Elections and may be informed by intelligence available to federal authorities. He encouraged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
“The presence of security should reassure our people that adequate measures are in place to protect them and ensure a peaceful process,” he said. “Osun voters must not allow fear to discourage them from exercising their civic rights. They should come out in large numbers to vote.”
The APC leader expressed concern over reports of violent attacks, killings, and alleged extrajudicial actions linked to political activities. He demanded that security agencies operate with professionalism, neutrality, and accountability, insisting that anyone who violates the law — regardless of political affiliation or status — must face appropriate legal consequences.
“There must be no impunity,” he stated.
Oyintiloye also called on government and relevant agencies to intensify public sensitization efforts and provide accurate information to counter rumors and misinformation ahead of the election. He urged political leaders and their supporters to moderate their language, avoid inflammatory rhetoric, and allow the Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct a transparent and credible exercise.
Aggrieved parties, he added, should seek redress through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
“The responsibility for a peaceful election rests on all stakeholders,” Oyintiloye said. “Let every eligible voter come out. Let every vote count. Let every citizen return home safely.”
He expressed confidence that the election would reflect the will of the people, stating that the APC and its candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, remain optimistic about victory based on their grassroots support and mobilization across the state.
