Ogun State Police Command has recovered an English submachine gun and 75 rounds of live ammunition hidden inside a damaged wardrobe in Sagamu Local Government Area, while separate operations led to the arrest of 12 suspected cultists in Igbesa and the recovery of an abandoned motorcycle in Kara.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the firearm was discovered during the clearing of a rented apartment previously occupied by a deceased landlord. Operatives from Sakura Division responded to the report, secured the premises, and retrieved the weapon alongside the ammunition. The exhibits have been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for ballistic examination as investigators work to determine how the firearm came to be concealed at the location.
In a separate operation, personnel from Idi Oke Division disrupted a suspected cult gathering at Harodous Hotel in the Lattykay area of Igbesa. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the harassment and extortion of patrons, officers cordoned off the area and arrested 12 suspects, though several others escaped. Recovered items included assorted charms, battle axes, knives, cult paraphernalia, eight motorcycles, a black Lexus vehicle, and an unregistered red Toyota Camry. The arrested individuals will be transferred to the SCID for further investigation, while efforts continue to track down the fleeing suspects.
Additionally, Sagamu Division operatives recovered an abandoned red Bajaj motorcycle near a mechanic workshop at Trailer Park, Kara, in Sabo Sagamu. The vehicle has been secured pending investigation to identify its owner and establish the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.
Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols, rapid response, and sustained inter-agency collaboration to prevent crime and bring perpetrators to justice. He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to provide timely and credible information through established channels.
