The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has unveiled a colour-coded ballot system for Kenya’s 2027 General Election, assigning distinct hues to each of the six elective positions to simplify the voting process for millions of citizens.
Under the new arrangement, every ballot paper will match the colour of its corresponding ballot box lid. The presidential ballot will be white, the National Assembly ballot green, the County Assembly ballot beige, the Senate ballot yellow, the Woman Representative ballot purple, and the gubernatorial ballot blue. The commission said the matching system is designed to help voters and election officials quickly identify the correct ballot and deposit it in the right box, reducing confusion on polling day.
IEBC officials urged the public to familiarise themselves with the colour assignments well before the election. The announcement coincides with a renewed voter registration drive under the slogan “Jipange Mapema. Register as a Voter!” Eligible Kenyans can register at any IEBC constituency office, Huduma Centre, or the commission’s Customer Experience Centre at Anniversary Towers in Nairobi.
The electoral body is also rolling out a voter education campaign centred on the messages “Your Vote, Your Voice” and “Talk With IEBC,” while warning against misinformation with the directive “Stop Fake News.” The commission said it will continue releasing official guidance as the election approaches and encouraged citizens to rely solely on verified channels for updates.
With six separate ballots to cast, the colour-coding aims to streamline what is expected to be a complex voting exercise across the country. The IEBC stressed that accurate registration and public awareness are critical to ensuring a smooth and credible election in 2027.
