The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has congratulated Governor Ademola Jackson Adeleke of Osun State on his re-election following Saturday’s governorship poll. In a statement issued on Sunday, the forum’s chairman, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, commended the electorate for turning out in large numbers and described the keenly contested off-cycle election as further evidence of the resilience of Nigerian democracy.
The forum acknowledged the constructive role played by opposition parties in deepening democratic practice and praised all candidates for their participation. It also lauded security agencies for containing early incidents of violence in the days preceding the vote, creating conditions that allowed the exercise to proceed with minimal disruption.
Particular recognition was given to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what the forum described as a statesmanlike posture. The NGF noted that the president balanced his position as leader of the ruling party with his broader responsibility as father of the nation, a stance the forum said helped preserve the integrity of the process.
“We are confident that His Excellency Ademola Adeleke will continue to build on the successes of his first term in the overall interest of the people of Osun State,” the statement concluded. The re-election returns Adeleke to office for a second four-year term, extending a tenure that began in 2022 after his initial victory under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
