Osun’s Shockwave: How 16 Governors Fell to the Will of the People

Osun’s election victory over 16 APC governors proves people power can defeat Tinubu in 2027, says Isaac Fayose.

The political earthquake that rattled Osun State on Saturday has sent a clear message far beyond its borders: the machinery of power, no matter how heavily armed with governors and resources, is no match for a united electorate. That is the defiant take of businessman and commentator Prince Isaac Fayose, who sees the defeat of the APC in the state’s governorship race as a blueprint for the 2027 presidential contest.

In a fiery video posted to his Facebook page on Sunday, Fayose did not mince words. He mocked the spectacle of 16 All Progressives Congress governors descending on Osun to back their candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, only to watch the incumbent, Ademola Adeleke, run away with the prize under the Accord Party banner. For Fayose, this was not just a local victory; it was a public humiliation of a political juggernaut.

“The Osun election has come and gone, and the people are the heroes of this election,” Fayose declared. “With 16 APC governors in Osun, the party failed woefully. Shame caught them.” His tone was one of vindication, as he contrasted the spirit of Osun voters with what he called the “vote sellers” of neighboring Ekiti State. “I love Osun people. They are not like Ekiti people,” he said. “When you look at what happened in Osun, you will see that the power of the people is greater than the power of the APC.”

Fayose’s message was pointed and prophetic. “If Osun people can defeat 16 governors, it means all of us can defeat Tinubu before 2pm in the January elections,” he argued, referring to the next presidential poll. He urged Nigerians, especially the youth, to take a page from Osun’s playbook: organize, resist, and show up in numbers that no amount of political heavyweights can overshadow. “The power of the people is greater than the power of those in power,” he insisted.

The implication is unmistakable. If a single state can stand up to the combined weight of a ruling party’s entire governor’s forum, what could a nationwide coalition of determined citizens achieve? Fayose’s call to action is simple: emulate Osun, and the 2027 election could be over before lunch.
