Tinubu govt targeting opposition, shielding APC members - ADC chieftain, Kalgo alleges

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State has declared its intention to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general Elections, with party leadership expressing confidence in a shifting political landscape.

Addressing journalists in the state, ADC Chairman Dr Sani Muhammad Gumel said the party was rapidly gaining acceptance across voter groups and strengthening its grassroots structures ahead of the polls. He asserted that incumbency would not shield the APC from electoral defeat, arguing that voter confidence, candidate credibility and governance performance would determine the outcome.

“Incumbency is not a guarantee of victory. What matters is the confidence of the people, the credibility of the candidates and the ability to provide good governance,” Gumel said.

The party is targeting all three senatorial districts, the 11 federal constituencies and the 31 seats in the Jigawa State House of Assembly. Gumel described the ADC as a credible alternative anchored on accountability, transparency, economic growth and improved welfare. He said the party had attracted politicians with established grassroots support from other platforms, all committed to challenging the APC in 2027.

“We have real and genuine politicians with grassroots support in our party. With credible candidates in all the positions, we are optimistic that ADC will take over power in Jigawa State come 2027,” he said.

The chairman urged members and supporters to remain united and intensify mobilisation at the ward level, while assuring continued consultations with stakeholders and communities. He also called on women and youths to participate actively in the democratic process to ensure their votes count.

Gumel said the party would unveil detailed programmes and electoral strategies as preparations advance. The declaration signals growing opposition coordination in a state the APC has controlled since 2015, setting the stage for a competitive electoral cycle.
