The Department of State Services (DSS) has charged four suspected terrorists before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Isabo, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The suspects—Aliu Abubakar, Abubakar Usman, Abubakar Amadu, and Adamu Aliu—were arrested on 9 December 2022 and arraigned on Wednesday on terrorism and kidnapping charges in suit number MISC/15/2023 (State vs Aliu Abubakar and three others).
Prosecution counsel Emmanuel Zamba informed the court that the DSS had filed an ex parte motion dated 15 March, accompanied by a five‑paragraph affidavit. The motion sought a court order to remand the suspects in state prison custody, alleging that the offences contravened sections 2 and 3 of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022. Zamba stated, “We are praying for an order of this honourable court to detain the defendants in the custody of the Nigeria Correctional Service for 30 days pending the determination of the suit.”
Chief Magistrate M. O. Osinbajo granted the DSS’s request as pleaded by the prosecution. However, she adjourned the matter until 17 April to allow for further reports from the DSS.
