PDP condemns killing in Southern Kaduna, urges residents to remain calm

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kaduna State raised alarm over suspicion of a wave of sudden attacks in the Southern part of the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

In a statement by Hon. Felix Hassan Hyat, Kaduna State PDP chairman said the party is worried the attack is coming a few days before the election in the part of the state that is the stronghold of the PDP.

The statement noted that the party is worried because the attackers may be playing out a script designed to scare, displace, and ultimately suppress the votes of the people of Southern Kaduna.

The party while condemning the dastardly act in its entirety, called on security agencies to be more proactive and decisive in the face of this threat to the survival of the people and democracy in Kaduna State.

The statement further called on the people in the area to remain calm and vigilant, and further advised the residents to report any suspicious movement in their areas to the appropriate authorities.

“We, therefore, appeal to everyone not to give in to the antics of those behind the attacks by taking the laws into their own hands. No one should create a reason for the outbreak of violence in the area or the imposition of punitive security measures that will lead to the postponement, cancellation or manipulation of the elections in the zone,” the statement said.

The party called on INEC not to be disturbed by the recent security developments in Southern Kaduna, while assuring the electoral body that the people of the zone are unshaken in their resolve to be peaceful and participate in the next round of elections on March 18, 2023, no matter the level of provocation.
