The Federal High Court of Nigeria announced a brief suspension of its proceedings ahead of the upcoming governorship and House of Assembly elections. The court will be on break for two working days—Friday, 17 March, and Monday, 20 March—allowing judges to fulfill their civic duty by voting.
Chief Judge Justice John Tsoho issued a circular on 15 March, titled “Break for the 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections,” addressed to all judges. He instructed that court business continue through Thursday, 16 March, after which the break will commence. Judges are to resume work on Tuesday, 21 March, two days after the polls.
The circular also directed the administrative judges in the Abuja, Lagos, and Port Harcourt Judicial Divisions to ensure that a judge is designated to handle urgent matters for the North, South‑West, and South‑South/South‑East geopolitical zones, respectively, during the suspension period.
